Distance Learning Tip of the Week –Change default fonts in Docs, Word

Whether you use Google Docs or Microsoft Word, default headings and text styles serve to visually organize pages, improve readability, and provide an intelligible structure for assistive technology users. That said, there is some room for personal preference. Ready for a font refresh? In Google Docs, try Lexend fonts, designed to increase reading fluency and help reduce eye strain. To add a new font, find the font menu in the top toolbar. (Hint: It’s likely Arial.) Click More fonts and search for Lexend. Once selected, new font options appear in the dropdown menu.

Microsoft Office replaced Times New Roman with Calibri as its default font in 2007. In 2021, the company commissioned five fresh fonts as possible replacements for Calibri. The contenders—Tenorite, Bierstadt, Skeena, Seaford and Grandview—are now available in the MS Word font menu. No need to wait for the winner. Select your own and change your default font in Word.
