Noʻeau Center is looking for peer tutors!
The Noʻeau Center is looking for peer tutors! This is a paid position that provides opportunities to improve students’ academic and professional skills as well as find a new role in the campus community. Student employment has also been shown to promote student retention and persistence.
Peer tutors
Minimum qualifications: Peer tutors must:
- Have completed at least 12 college credit hours,
- Be currently enrolled in at least 6 UH system credits,
- Have at least 1 year remaining at UH West Oʻahu before graduation,
- Be able to work at least 10 hours per week,
- Be in good academic standing (i.e. overall GPA of 3.0, and A or B in the subject area[s] they are interested in tutoring),
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for helping students,
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills, and
- Have evening and weekend availability.
Additionally, tutors must be skilled in subject area and provide a reference from faculty member in subject area.
Desired qualifications:
- Areas of greatest need: strengths in
- writing (in any major)
- statistics (PUBA 341, or SSCI 210)
- Strengths in the following a plus: BUSA 311; SSCI 301; Math 100, 103, 135-241; finance; Hawaiian language; ISA; PUBA; graphic design; video production)
