The week of September 18, our building will be closing at 2:30pm. For the latest updates about the ongoing AC Project, go here.

Extended Closure Due to Air Conditioning Project

Please note the temporary closure of the James & Abigail Campbell Library, beginning on March 13, as a result of a Library Air Conditioning Repair Project. The library will be under construction to optimize the air conditioning system to address higher than normal humidity levels within the building. The scope of work includes replacement of failing insulation, cleaning of ductwork, and replacement of non-operational equipment and sensors.

Due to the extent of work required, the entire building will be closed during the construction period which is anticipated to begin on Spring Break 2023 and continue through late Summer 2023. However, as with the nature of construction, this timeline is subject to change due to unforeseen conditions and longer lead times of materials from supply chain shortages experienced in recent years. Should you have any questions on the construction, please contact the Planning and Design project manager at 808-689-2546. Updates about the project can be viewed here.

Air Conditioning Project Updates

  • Beginning September 11: The contractor will be removing the scaffolding on the second floor of the library building. They anticipate completing the removal by Friday, September 15.  The work will begin at 3pm each day during the week; because of the safety hazard and the noise that will be generated during the removal process, the Library will be closing at 2:30pm until the removal is completed.
  • The reopening of the second floor (and library collections) remains undetermined as the area will need to be cleaned once the scaffolding has been cleared.
