Let the Easter festivities and fun continue — and all for a worthy cause — at the University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s Easter Trot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, along designated paths around campus.

The event, presented by UH West O‘ahu’s Campus Health Services and Campus Recreation, aims to benefit UH West O‘ahu’s basic needs efforts and to promote a healthier lifestyle among the campus community. It is open to all UH West O‘ahu students (with validated ID), faculty, and staff.

“Participation in the UH West O‘ahu Easter Trot matters because it does two things at once: It strengthens the campus community’s health awareness and it also brings awareness and direct support to our basic needs program, which serves our campus in several ways,” said said UH West O‘ahu Recreation (Intramural Sports), Fitness and Wellness Coordinator, Coach Ryan Perreira.

Perreira continued,“The Kumu Ola program is a campus-wide initiative that provides essential resources — food, hygiene items, clothing, technology access, and connections to financial or housing support — to help students meet their basic needs so they can stay enrolled and succeed academically. Its mission is simple: No student should have to sacrifice their health or stability to pursue their degree.”

At the Easter Trot, participants will need to check in at the Outdoor Learning Space, where they will be provided a route/map of a 2-mile walk/run around the UH West O‘ahu campus that they will need to complete. Participants will have anytime within the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. time frame to complete the route, which should take about 15 minutes.

As part of the event festivities, participants will hunt for Easter eggs and win prizes (details will be provided upon registration), and enjoy healthy Easter “sundaes”/acai bowls. Those who wear pastel colors to the Easter Trot can also win prizes.

A similar event that Perreira helped to oversee in November on campus, a Turkey Trot, successfully collected hundreds of donated clothing and food items for UH West O‘ahu students.

The Easter Trot entry fee for faculty and staff is a donation of non-perishable food or clothing, and students are free. To register and for more event instructions, click here. For questions about the Easter Trot, email chsuhwo@hawaii.edu or imwest@hawaii.edu.

This event is one of the “50 Acts of Pueo Pride” — events highlighted as part of the University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s 50th anniversary in 2026.
