The University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu welcomes U.S. Rep. Ed Case and U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda, who will hold a shadow congressional hearing, which offers students the opportunity to experience first-hand what it is like to provide testimony to members of Congress.

The event, organized by the UH West O‘ahu Office of Government Relations, will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, in UH West O‘ahu’s James & Abigail Campbell Library second-floor exhibit area. Students from UH West O‘ahu and Leeward Community College may attend and/or participate in the hearing.

“The event provides students from both campuses a unique opportunity to experience what it is like to testify in front of Congress and to gain a deeper understanding of how U.S. policy is created,” said David McDonald, UH West O‘ahu Vice Chancellor for Administration. “Students will also have the chance to interact with and learn from Hawai‘i’s members of Congress.”

U.S. Rep. Case represents Hawai‘i’s First Congressional District, O‘ahu from Makapu‘u through Central Honolulu and Leeward to Mililani, Waipahu, and ‘Ewa and Kapolei. U.S. Rep. Tokuda represents Hawai‘i’s Second Congressional District, which includes suburban and rural parts of O‘ahu, the islands of Hawai‘i, Kaua‘i, Maui, Lana‘i, Moloka‘i, Ni‘ihau, Kaho‘olawe, and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.

The following is a tentative agenda:

  • 9:45-10 a.m.: Congressman Case and Congresswoman Tokuda arrive
  • 10-10:10 a.m.: Welcome and elected officials’ opening statements
  • 10:10-10:50 a.m.: Testimony from students
  • 10:50-11 a.m.: Elected officials and UH West O‘ahu closing statements
  • 11 a.m.: Group photo

Students who would like to provide testimony may sign up here. Students who sign up will receive further details and guidance on testifying. For questions or for more information, please contact Wendy Tatsuno at wendys@hawaii.edu or 808-689-2775.

This event is one of the “50 Acts of Pueo Pride” — events highlighted as part of the University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s 50th anniversary in 2026.
