The Mostly Monthly Reading Series continues this semester with Ho‘olana Publishing and readings from its “Ho‘olana Journal 01: I ulu nō ka lālā i ke kumu” — 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu’s James & Abigail Campbell Library, second-floor exhibition space.

The event’s scheduled readers are Mahina Kauhi, Nandi Odhiambo, Tiare Picard, Yasmine Romero, and Rain Wright. There will also be snacks and prize drawings.

Ho‘olana Publishing aims to uplift Hawai‘i’s many talented poets, writers, and artists, whose work Ho‘olana Publishing believes will inspire future generations, according to its website.

“This is especially exciting because Ho‘olana Publishing has direct ties to UH West O‘ahu with two of its editors teaching courses on our campus (Picard and Wright),” said Andy Godefroy, faculty host of the Mostly Monthly Reading Series.

The scheduled presenters will be reading from “Ho‘olana Journal 01: I ulu nō ka lālā i ke kumu” (Ho‘olana Publishing, September 2025), a collection by 53 writers that brings together dynamic pairings — established and up-and-coming writers, kumu and haumana, friends and colleagues, and much more, according to a description by Ho‘olana Publishing. The inaugural journal is dedicated to kumu Caroline Sinavaiana-Gabbard.

The Mostly Monthly Reading Series is presented in collaboration between Godefroy, a UH West O‘ahu English lecturer who started the reading series in 2013, and the James & Abigail Campbell Library.

The Mostly Monthly Reading Series event featuring Ho‘olana Publishing is open to UH West O‘ahu students, faculty, and staff, and the general public. Anyone who has questions or would like more info may email godefroy@hawaii.edu.
