University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu faculty and staff can learn about using artificial intelligence (AI) in their classrooms and more at PACT Hui Talk Story: AI in Teaching and Learning, which takes place from 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, via Zoom.
The purpose of the PACT Hui Talk Story is to provide a supportive learning community to explore computational thinking and emerging tech (e.g., Generative AI/GenAI) in ways that are ethical, student-centered, and grounded in place. Participants will share practices, try small experiments, and uplift each other’s teaching and scholarship. Organizers encourage participants to “grab this opportunity to learn and engage — bring one idea, leave with two!”
The upcoming session features presenters Dr. Esther Widiasih (mathematics) and Dr. Matt Cavert (history), who will share their experience, the pedagogical framework, and the class activities utilizing AI in their classrooms.
The event is part of the Computational Thinking Hui, a gathering place primarily for UH West O‘ahu faculty and staff to equip them with the tools in a learning community to elevate computational thinking in teaching practices; expand the knowledge base to serve a diverse community of students in an Indigenous-serving institution; and provide funding to support computational thinking research for themselves and for their students
The Computational Thinking Hui and its events are part of the Partnership in Advancing Computational Thinking (PACT) project, a collaboration between UH West O‘ahu and Kaua‘i Community College, and funded by the National Science Foundation.
