The University of Hawai‘i–West O‘ahu Student Organic Garden presents several volunteer opportunities for everyone throughout the fall 2023 semester! The garden, or māla, is on campus adjacent to the Classroom (D) and Laboratory (E) buildings.

  • Weekly Harvest/Volunteer Days, 10 a.m. to noon every Friday (when the campus is open). The activity is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to participate in harvests and volunteer in the māla, and also a chance for students to get service learning hours. Students are welcome to harvest/volunteer on other days/times, but will need to coordinate that with garden supervisor Tasia Yamamura at tasiay@hawaii.edu.
  • Saturday Community Workdays, 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9, Oct. 7, and Nov. 4. Join the māla crew for these hands-on workdays, where volunteer students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to help care for the garden by learning to prepare soil, building compost, installing irrigation, sowing seed, harvesting produce, and more.

Participants of these garden activities should bring reusable water bottles, use sun protection, and wear close-toed shoes. Please contact tasiay@hawaii.edu to RSVP (required) or for any other inquiries.
