ʻUluʻulu: The Henry Kuʻualoha Giugni Moving Image Archive of Hawaiʻi at the University of Hawaiʻi–West Oʻahu presents special screenings and a panel discussion of the classic television series “Pau Hana Years” during this month’s Hawaiʻi International Film Festival.

The endearing series, originally broadcast in 1975 on PBS Hawaiʻi, celebrated the 50th anniversary on 1971 of the first Molokaʻi homesteads.

In honor of both the PBS Hawaiʻi series and the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921, ʻUluʻulu presents “100 Years: Hawaiian Homes Commission Act” — free screenings of four episodes of “Pau Hana Years” as part of the HIFF Archival Screening Series. The episodes will be available online beginning today, Nov. 4, through Nov. 28. Click here for more information and tickets for the screenings.

ʻUluʻulu also presents “HIFF Talks: The Pau Hana Years in Conversation,” a free online panel discussion 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7. The panel will feature special guests including producers, historians, archivists, and experts familiar with the behind-the-scenes work that went into creating and preserving the series from the 1970s.

Panelists for the discussion will include Zackery Helm, Hawaiian Homes Commissioner for the island of Molokaʻi; Ron Mizutani, President and CEO of PBS Hawaiʻi; Joy Chong-Stannard, Independent Producer/Director; and Janel Quirante, Head Archivist at ʻUluʻulu. The panel will be moderated by Heather Haunani Giugni of ʻUluʻulu.
