Lilomaiava-Doktor will provide insight at a June 23 panel titled, “Pacific Labour Mobility Across the Pacific.” The scope of the panel includes looking at the impacts of the schemes on communities in the Pacific (where labor is sourced) and in the Pacific Rim (the areas to which labor is outsourced).

“As (part of) a handful of indigenous Pacific Islander scholars and researchers working on Oceania migration, diaspora, and transnationalism, it is beautiful to be recognized,” Lilomaiava-Doktor said.

The panel also seeks to explore and address whether COVID-19 provides an opportunity to rework labor mobility schemes while considering their ongoing impacts, both social and economic, and their long-term sustainability.

Asia Pacific Week is in its 11th year of bringing together high caliber students and young professionals from around the world. This year, 80 delegates were accepted to attend the interdisciplinary conference (the event is closed to the general public) for four days of thought-provoking panels, debates, simulations, and workshops.

According to its website, Asia Pacific Week organizers “aim to bring together young individuals from all across the world and equip them with the knowledge, skills, and empathy to become compassionate leaders of change in the dynamic Asia and Pacific regions.”
