Comprised of the chairs of the Faculty Senate’s seven standing committees, in addition to the Senate Chair, Vice Chair, and parliamentarian (ex officio). Acts on behalf of the Faculty Senate in cases of emergency. Sets the agenda for regular and special meetings. Consults with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellor.

Academic Affairs and Planning
Reviews and makes recommendations to the Faculty Senate policy relating to criteria for faculty contract renewal, tenure, promotion, ethics, peer review and student evaluation of faculty; academic programs and faculty positions; matters relating to faculty development; academic planning, policies and priorities, for both academic programs and staff. Consults with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Budget & Resources
Reviews and makes recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to academic program budgets, faculty release time, faculty overloads, faculty travel, sabbatical leaves, and designated research grants; campus resource allocation and use; Reviews submitted proposals related to faculty travel, sabbatical leaves, and designated research grants (recommending their approval, modification, or disapproval); Assures that all information concerning current budgets, processes used to develop future budgets, and resource allocation is disseminated to all members of the faculty. Consults with the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services. Provides one member (the Chair or designee) to serve as a liaison to the administrative budget committee.

Curriculum
Receives, reviews and forwards to Faculty Senate all course proposals submitted by individual faculty members throughout UH West Oʻahu Divisions. Addresses said course proposals with respect to course content vis-a-vis UH West Oʻahu programs and other UH system curricula. Reviews and makes recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to program proposals; Authorizations to Plan and Program Plans (for new programs, etc.); institutional requirements; articulation agreements; dual enrollment agreements; review submitted proposals, and recommend approval, modification, or disapproval of program proposals; review and make recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to senior capstone courses (i.e., senior practica and senior projects), learning outcomes, and distance education.

Distance Education
Review and recommends to the Senate distance education policies. Receives, reviews, and forwards to Faculty Senate all online and/or hybrid course proposals submitted by individual faculty throughout UH West Oʻahu Divisions, confining its review to issues surrounding DE modality rather than the nature of the course content. Reviews and recommends to the Senate evaluation and assessment of online courses. Support and encourage faculty use of and access to distance education resources and technology. Liaise with the System’s Distributed Learning Advisory Committee.

General Education
Reviews and makes recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to the general education program; general education course requirements (excluding semi-autonomous subcommittees noted below). Facilitates general education transfer and articulation within the UH system. Reviews submitted
proposals and recommends their approval, modification, or disapproval (excluding semi-autonomous subcommittees). Receives and forwards to Faculty Senate both policy and course recommendations from the semi-autonomous subcommittees (representing foundation and focus areas–Hawaiian-Asian-Pacific (HAP), Symbolic Reasoning (SR), Writing (W), and others to be added in future).

Program Review
Reviews and recommends to the Senate policy relating to program review. Reviews and recommends to the Senate evaluation and assessment of all academic program policies. Supports and encourages faculty to thoughtfully write the self-study to assess the effectiveness of their programs. Works with the Program, Division Chairs and VCAA to complete the program review process.

Student Affairs
Reviews and make recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to student admission requirements, advising, conduct code, academic dishonesty, academic grievances, academic awards, and distinction. Makes specific recommendations to the Senate for the improvement of quality educational, co-curricular, and off-campus experiences for students. Consults with the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.

Sustainability
Review and make recommendations to the Senate concerning policy relating to the Sustainability Focus designation. Facilitate Sustainability Focus designation transfer and articulation within UH system. Receive and forward to Faculty Senate both policy and course recommendations from the semi-autonomous Sustainability Focus Designation subcommittee to craft a proposal process, review submitted proposals and to recommend their approval, modification, or disapproval. Consult with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and/or the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Make specific recommendations to the Senate for the improvement of quality educational, co-curricular, and off-campus sustainability related experiences for students. Establish a mechanism through which administrators, faculty, staff and students implement the sustainability goals in accordance with the policy established by the board of regents (BOR). Further advise in shaping goals in the areas of operations, curriculum, research, and scholarship, campus and community engagement, and cultural connections. These goals shall serve to guide the campus strategic efforts. Foster growth and strengthen applied research development support across all divisions which results in innovative programs that address sustainability in community, social, environmental and social justice issues.
