The regular meeting of the UHWO Faculty Senate was held on Zoom, FS Chair Akamine presiding with Brenda Machosky Vice Chair/Recorder. Chair Akamine called the meeting to order at 11:36 am.

III. Administrative Reports
- Office of the Chancellor (Chancellor Maenette Benham)
- Nothing to report from legislative session at this time except that monies that were taken out of G-funds at beginning of COVID 1.6M – we have to ask every year to have this put back, and we have good information that it will be back for next fiscal year. Same is true of UHH and UHM.
- House Finance Committee passed expansion for all campuses, but the Senate did not. Senate is restoring sources to CCs but not extending to 4-year schools.
- Nakia o’Kapolei – sculpture at the entry to campus.Another installation of a sculpted piece, once landscaping is set up on the East Campus entrance.
- Saturday April 6 is BSA Onizuka Day https://onizukaday.com/. Over 120 workshops: 70 provided by UHWO faculty. Outreach to high school students; other community groups, Thinking 67,000 people.
- Tuesday April 9 is the dedidation of AES photo voltaic ray Solar farm, followed by a reception. Gov. Green will be in attendance.
- Wednesday 4/10 – First UH Giving Day. We have eight accounts with ambassadors to reach out for people to fund programs, including Eddie and Myrna Kamai Songbook, UHWO Band, Hawaiian Indigenous Health and Healing Program, RMI Program (Ed Keanui), Accounting Club (Katie Landgraf), Nursing (Rebecca Romine & Nicole Akana).
- Thursday 4/11 – Close to 170 first-year students (approaching 200) will do their first-year here at UHWO invited to attend “Go West” where they can register for classes.
- Still no updates on FAFSA.
- Messaging will come out to participate in commencement. Will include an honorary degree awarded to Michael Nakasone. Student speakers should be announced soon.

- Basic Needs Update: Dispensers will be provided in the bathrooms for menstrual equity.

IV. Faculty Senate Chair's Reports
- ASUHWO Update
- Lindsey Millerd, ASUHWO president
- Beginning talk story or presentation about installing campus maps around campus
- Increasing student engagement with student government, dropboxes to get input
- Continuing with cap-and-gown loan, helping out students and also supports sustainability.
- Voting period concluded, although not all spots were filled, probably special elections in the fall

- Content migration There will be a process from an active course (with CRN) migrated into a new site, but note that there will be some re-arranging necessary.
- UHWO will be doing content Migration in cohort 2, includes UHWO and UHM, and transition will be complete in Fall 2025.

- Policy changes for RP 5.213 General Education. This is a Board of Regents policy, esp. important to Regent Abercrombie, so if you have serious concerns, please do submit them.
- Policy changes RP 5.211 Admissions policy.Comments and questions can be submitted via the online comment form by April 14, 2024. See esp. inserted new sections. If there is interest, FS Chair will initiate a discussion

V. Committee Reports
- Academic Affairs and Planning – (Sen. Katie Landgraf)
- Nothing to vote on.
- Discussed ways to help student wellness. A report on UHWO was that almost half of students had thought about suicide in the past year. Thinking about ways to connect with students. Suggest an orientation session with concentration students. Katie has been doing one for accounting students and is happy to share this. There are fewer questions later in the academic year after this orientation.
- Budget and Resources – (Sen. Thomas Scheiding)

- Curriculum (Sen. Carina Chernisky)
- Kuali is on hiatus during the summer but you can work on drafts. Submissions open on August 1; Deadline is September 13.

- Update for information only. Several program reviews are scheduled to begin next year, so hosting meetings with Divisions and VCAA. Committee has been working to update materials and schedules and updated to website. We will be hosting a workshop for current programs doing program review. Working on funding for things like external reviewers.
- Student Affairs – No Report
- Sustainability – (Sen. Rouel Velasco)
- Thanks to those who completed the solar panel survey. Received 206 completed surveys. Plan to bring report to May Faculty Senate meeting
- Working on Systemwide Sustainability group. They want each campus to have a website, so we are working on a Sustainability microsite for our campus.
- Earth Day Event moved to April 22 10:00a-1:00p. If you want to host a table related to Earth Day, sustainability, providing information, contact Rouel.
- Prep for Fall: Sustainability Pitch and Present competition for students – more information in May
- Things are growing in the garden! Open to the entire community, touch base with Tasha, who is also leading a Kimchi Workshop on 4/13.

- Currently Faculty Senate Chair term is up in May. New chair needs to be elected at May meeting. Email suggestions or nominations. Vote will occur at May faculty meeting. All faculty in attendance can vote; this includes lecturers teaching more than 6 credits.
