Earn Your Online Teaching Certificate

  1. Attend any three of the workshops.
  2. Try out a new skill from the workshop in current or planned teaching for at least two of the three workshops and submit documentation of this implementation.
  3. Submit a written reflection after the third workshop, discussing how you will use the knowledge and skills gained from the workshops to improve teaching and learning (500 words maximum).
  4. Complete a short survey in March 2019 to report on how you are using these skills in your classes, and to inquire if additional topics will be helpful.

Attend any of the workshops in person in or through “Pueo Virtual Synchronous” (PVS) mode of delivery via simultaneous video conferencing.

Laulima: Intro to Tools

This workshop will teach you how to install and use some of the more popular tools in Laulima such as Syllabus, Discussions, Gradebook, Lessons, Statistics, Resources, and Assignments, Tests and Surveys. During this workshop the instructor will walk through the tools and answer “how to” questions.

Flipped Classroom Strategies

The flipped classroom is a popular trend particularly for the hybrid mode of course delivery. In this workshop, you will explore different flipped design strategies and the benefits of the flipped design model for learner engagement and achievement of learning outcomes.

Accessibility Basic Competencies

Making sure that all course materials are accessible is not only the law, but it is also best practice in the online learning environment.In this workshop you will learn how to provide alternate text for images, captioning of videos, and formatting for documents that meet compliance guidelines.

Google Apps

This workshop will teach you how to use some of the more popular Google Apps, which are accessible through your UH mail account. The workshop will focus on Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets. During this workshop the instructor will walk through the apps and answer questions about how to use the tools.

Intro to Audio and Visual Tools

Research suggests that audio and video can foster a sense of presence, increase engagement and improve learning outcomes in online courses. In this workshop, you will learn how to effectively use video conferencing tools, such as BlueJeans, Zoom and Google Hangouts, in a variety of ways to promote learner engagement.

Camtasia & Snagit

This workshop will teach you how to use Camtasia and Snagit. Camtasia can be used to create and edit screen recordings and produce videos. Snagit to capture screenshots and screen recordings. You become familiar with parts and functions of each program and see how you can use them for your classes.

Advanced Laulima Tools

Laulima has many features or tools that can make distance learning more interactive. In this workshop, you will learn how to use the Meetings, Polls, and Sign-up tools in Laulima, and how to form small groups in the Discussion and Private Messages tool. Any other Laulima tools that are of interest to the participants will also be discussed.
