ABOUT THREAT TEAM HAWAI'I

Threat Team Hawaiʻi (TTH) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the prevention of targeted acts of violence. Through the cooperative sharing of information, resources, and the knowledge gained through training with leading experts in the field of threat assessment, the endeavors to identify, assess, and manage situations where the risk of violence is imminent and/or anticipated. TTH includes representatives from law enforcement, education, mental health, and other support agencies responsible for community safety who regularly train on threat assessment and threat management, as well as privacy laws.

Consult cases may be brought to TTH after the originating agency’s Level 1 Team has conducted a threat assessment. If the agency does not have a Level 1 Team in place, the expectation is that the individuals who have decision-making authority within the agency, have already discussed the case and agree to bring the matter to the TTH Consult Group.

Any of the following cases are ones that can be brought to the Consult Group:

  • A case in which the person of concern’s risk level has gone beyond the scope of the Level 1 Team’s capability to address
  • A case in for which the Level 1 Team could benefit from a broader multidisciplinary community perspective
  • A case in which the person of concern’s actions are criminal in nature and, as such, necessitates guidance from law enforcement representatives on TTH CG
  • The originating agency does not have its own Level 1 Team
  • There must be a person of concern who:
    • Presents risk factors for targeted violence; and/or
    • Presents behaviors indicating that the person of concern may be on the pathway to targeted violence
