Does UH West Oʻahu need a Behavior Intervention Team?

Behavior Intervention Teams (BITs) can be found on many college and university campuses these days.  BIT groups are operating on small campuses such as Gallaudet University to some of the country’s largest schools, campuses such as University of California, Los Angeles.

UH West Oʻahu has a relatively safe campus and the BIT is an effort to maintain a safe environment where people can work and learn. The BIT Team’s work is confidential but in its less-than two-year existence has considered cases of violence in a classroom, distraught students who possibly could harm themselves, and persons with bizarre behavior and disjointed thoughts. The BIT works to neutralize problems and provide help to the person.
