Program & Services

UHWO CSD Officers patrol the UH West O‘ahu campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Officers conduct patrols regularly to deter potential crime, maintain situational awareness of day to day operations of the campus, and provide a visible security presence on campus.

Along with routine patrol duties and traffic control, officers respond to a variety of calls for service to include alarms, medical emergencies, suspicious activity, conducting investigations, making emergency notifications, and securing rooms and buildings.

Officers are trained in emergency First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). AED locations can be found on the campus map.

Security Assessments

UHWO CSD strives to ensure that all departments within the UHWO campus community practice sound safety and security procedures. One way to accomplish this is by conducting security assessments of buildings and individual departments employing the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

Security assessments seek to minimize hazardous conditions both on the exterior and interior of buildings and facilities on campus. Items assessed include exterior/interior lighting, doors, shrubbery, and departmental procedures relating to emergencies.

If you would like to have a security assessment conducted of your department or building, please contact the UHWO CSD at

Safety Escorts

A safety escort service is provided from dusk til dawn for anyone on campus traveling to any University parking lot or facility. Dial x2911 from any campus phone or (808) 689-2911 from a mobile phone to request a safety escort.

Event Security Request

Many campus departments hold special events on campus property throughout the year. Depending on the size of your event or your desire to have added security measures in place, you may request UHWO CSD officers to work special duty for your event.

However, please note that UHWO CSD reserves the right to use its discretion and require campus departments to have UHWO CSD officers working special duty depending on the type of event and circumstances (i.e. concerts).

All special duty requests will be paid for by the requesting department.

Requests will be filled as our department staffing allows. If we are unable to meet your request, we will notify you and recommend other options.

Talk Story Hour

As part of UHWO CSD's comittment to building a sense of community with our campus, we are offering a Talk Story Hour with the UHWO CSD Director and Sergeant.

This initiative is part of the UHWO CSD's committment to community policing efforts and providing our campus community the opportunity to meet members of the UHWO CSD and ask questions relating to safety and security, and emergency management.

Talk Story Hour will take place at varying times throughout each semester in select locations around campus. Please look for upcoming dates and locations in the UHWO weekly newsletter. If you cannot make the Talk Story Hour and have questions or concerns relating to security and/or emergency management, please email us at

Emergency Call Boxes

Eleven emergency call boxes (Code Blue Phones) are located throughout campus that, when activated, connect the caller to Campus Security. Emergency phone locations are indicated on the campus map.
