COVID-19 Student Travel

Date/Time sent: 03/13/2020 6:00 am

Aloha,

Many of our students, faculty, and staff plan to travel in the upcoming months. While the university does not set requirements for personal travel, everyone is encouraged to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 travel guidelines (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/index.html).

We want our campus to remain a safe space for our students, faculty, and staff. Should you be
traveling, we ask that as a student of the West Oahu community, you please contact Kelly Fujino in Student Life, kafujino@hawaii.edu to share/self-disclose your upcoming plans (both international and domestic travel) through the rest of the spring 2020 semester.  This proactive step will help keep our campus community safe and healthy.

Everyone should postpone or cancel travel to high-risk (Level 3) countries, as designated by the CDC, and consider the same for areas with active community transmission, including within the United States. This is a rapidly-evolving situation and other countries and areas, including domestic travel, could be added to advisory lists with little or no notice.

You must report your travel to a CDC Level 3 Travel Advisory country. If you travel to a CDC Level 3 Travel Advisory country (China, Iran, South Korea, and Italy), the University will be adhering to recommendations that you self-quarantine
(https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/after-travel-precautions.html) for 14 days when you return.  You’ll need to receive clearance from UH officials before returning to campus.

Check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 travel page and the UH’s COVID-19 Travel FAQ page for the latest information. Please continue to check your hawaii.edu email for updates. If you have any questions, please email: COVID19@hawaii.edu.

Mahalo,

Jan Javinar, Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
