Applying for graduation
All students must submit the Application for Graduation to have their degree/certificate conferred, regardless of intended participation in the commencement ceremony, as that is optional, after registering for the last semester of classes needed to fulfill their degree requirements for graduation. A separate application is required for each degree and/or certificate that is being petitioned.
Step 1: Complete Application for Graduation.
Step 2: If pre-approved by an advisor, your application will then be forwarded to the Office of Registrar and your student account will be charged the applicable diploma fee.
Step 3: Payment may be made online through your Star GPS or MyUH Services account or in-person at the Cashier’s Office, C-141. Failure to make payment in a timely manner may result in a financial obligation to the University of Hawai‘i. Only pre-approved and paid applications will be processed.
|Graduation Term||Application Deadline|
|Spring 2019||February 8, 2019|
|Summer 2019||June 7, 2019|

Students who have already submitted an Application for Graduation and need to cancel their application should contact Office of the Registrar as soon as possible. Another Application for Graduation will be required.
The University provides graduates with a fall and spring commencement ceremony. Additional information is emailed to prospective graduates from the Advising Office. Students who participate in the commencement ceremony and meet the distinction requirements at the time they petition to graduate will be recognized as a candidate for distinction. Students who plan to graduate in summer will be able to participate in the following fall commencement.
Graduation With Distinction
Graduation with Distinction will be conferred on those graduates who complete 30 or more UH West O‘ahu credits with a minimum UH West O‘ahu cumulative GPA of 3.75, including courses whose credits were not applicable to the degree.
Degrees are formally conferred at the end of the fall (December), spring (May), and summer (August) terms. Conferring of degrees is completed within 4-6 weeks after commencement. Students may view their STAR account to confirm the awarding of their degree.
Once conferred, the diplomas are ordered and available approximately in March for fall; August for spring, and October for summer. An email will be sent to all graduating students when the diplomas are available. Students who no longer reside on Oʻahu after commencement should update their mailing address in MyUH Services so their diploma can be mailed. Diplomas are mailed via the U.S. Postal Service. All financial obligations within the UH system must be cleared before the diploma can be issued.
Hawaiian Language Diplomas
Hawaiian language diplomas are available to students who were awarded degrees from spring 1995 to the present. The student’s name, degree, and major, as well as official University signatures appear in English.
To order a replacement diploma, contact the Office of the Registrar for more information. Diplomas will be printed in the current format with signatures of current University officials. Please allow 16-18 weeks for processing.
