Applying for graduation
All students must submit the Application for Graduation to have their degree/certificate officially awarded from the University, regardless of intended participation in the commencement ceremony. A separate application is required for each degree and/or certificate that is being petitioned.
Step 1: Complete application for graduation.
Step 2: Make an appointment with a Student Services Academic Advisor (REQUIRED) by calling (808) 689-2689. Neighbor island students should contact their office to schedule a phone appointment. Students on O‘ahu should bring the completed application to their appointment; neighbor island students may either scan and email the completed application to email@example.com or fax it to (808) 689-2691 prior to their phone appointment. Commencement information will be sent by the Academic Advising Office approximately 4-6 weeks after the application deadline.
Step 3: After the completed application has been signed by an academic advisor, submit the application and payment to the Cashier’s Office, C-141. Neighbor island students may contact their office toll-free at (866) 299-8656 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This application is required by all degree and certificate seeking students in order to officially graduate from the University. A separate application is required for each degree and/or certificate that is being petitioned.

The University provides graduates with a fall and spring commencement ceremony. Additional information is emailed to prospective graduates from the Academic Advising Office. Students who participate in the commencement ceremony and meet the distinction requirements at the time they petition to graduate will be recognized as a candidate for distinction. Students who plan to graduate in summer will be able to participate in the following fall commencement.
Graduation With Distinction
Graduation with Distinction will be conferred on those graduates who complete 30 or more UH West O‘ahu credits with a minimum UH West O‘ahu cumulative GPA of 3.75, including courses whose credits were not applicable to the degree.
Degrees are formally conferred at the end of the fall (December), spring (May), and summer (August) terms. Conferring of degrees is completed within 4-6 weeks after commencement. Students may view their STAR account to confirm the awarding of their degree.
Once conferred, the diplomas are ordered and available approximately in mid-March for fall; mid-July for spring, and mid-October for summer. An email will be sent to all graduating students when the diplomas are available. Students who no longer reside on Oahu after commencement should update their mailing address in MyUH so their diploma can be mailed. Diplomas are mailed via the U.S. Postal Service. All financial obligations within the UH system must be cleared before the diploma can be issued.
Hawaiian Language Diplomas
Optional Hawaiian language diplomas are available to students who were awarded degrees from spring 1995 to the present. The student’s name, degree, and major, as well as official University signatures appear in English.
To order a replacement diploma, contact the Office of the Registrar for more information. Diplomas will be printed in the current format with signatures of current University officials. Please allow 16-18 weeks for processing.
