‘Umeke for 2019
Aloha mai kākou!
The University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu (UHWO) is the premier comprehensive, undergraduate university within the 10-campus UH system. Located in Kapolei, we serve our west-side region as well as all Oʻahu and our neighbor island communities through on-campus, hybrid, and fully online courses and programs. Our students pursue a variety of degree and certificate programs, participate in value-added professional internships, and pursue civic and service learning in the communities that we serve. Indeed, our partnerships with area businesses, entrepreneurs, and public organizations push boundaries and create new career opportunities that enrich the lives of our students. Our strategic action plan is focused on student success, inclusion, academic distinction, and the public good.
We have, since opening our doors at our new campus in 2012, enjoyed record growth. In fact, UH West Oʻahu has been the fastest growing school of its type in the nation for the past two years, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s annual almanac. Enrollment surged 239 percent between 2006 and 2016, or, the most by any public baccalaureate granting institution. In 2017, UH West Oʻahu also led the list of fastest growing colleges. At UH West Oʻahu, we are “Pueo Strong” because we offer so much more than a degree and/or certificate. Here are just three (3) top news stories that speak to the exemplary achievements and influence of our students:
- Villanueva: From immigrant struggles to speaking at Governor’s inaugural celebration
- Focused: Sisters Chelsea and Mylia Briggs set sights on more achievements
- UH West Oʻahu graduate Giardina receives NextGen Scholarship
So, to all our graduates, current students, and potential students who share their talents with us and so much more, “Mahalo nūnui for all you do, for the caring and compassionate way you serve, and for your commitment to discovery, innovation, and leadership that honors cultural diversity! This is the essence of PUEO STRONG!”
