The University of Hawaii—West O’ahu (UHWO) seeks an exemplary teacher/scholar for its emerging Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree program in Elementary Teacher Education, K-6 and proposed middle-level (7-9) and/or secondary (9-12) programs in English; Math; Science; Social Studies. Duties: Tenure-track Teacher Education faculty teach courses in our field-based, Elementary (K-6) program and our proposed middle-level (7-9) and/or secondary (9-12) programs, supervise field experiences within our Professional Development School model, and establish and maintain positive working relationships with area schools. In addition to teaching in their discipline(s), education faculty are expected to engage in course development and delivery via distance methods, conduct scholarly activity, continue their professional development, and provide service to the profession and broader community, as well as advise students and participate in faculty governance.
Minimum qualifications: Assistant Professor: Earned doctorate in Education from a regionally accredited and recognized institution, with a specialization in one or more of the following curricular areas: science education; math education; literacy; social studies education; middle-level education; educational technology; educational foundations; health education; creative & performing arts. Evidence of excellent teaching; scholarly publications or demonstrated potential to conduct and publish research in journals; interest in and evidence of quality service to the profession and community at large; two years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience; demonstrated commitment to diversity and the education of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. ABD candidates must earn their doctorate by August 1, 2010. Associate Professor. In addition to minimum qualifications for the rank of Assistant Professor, five years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor; demonstrated post-secondary teaching excellence; research and service achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank, in comparison with peers active in the same field at comparable institutions.
Desirable qualifications: Successful experience developing innovative, technology-based courses for delivery to non-traditional students; knowledge of State and NCATE accreditation standards and procedures; knowledge of and experience working in Professional Development Schools; evidence of teaching excellence (K-20) in culturally and linguistically diverse settings; evidence of excellent post-secondary teaching in an elementary teacher education program.
Pay range: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
